Why this FAQ?
We understand you may have questions following the cancellation of Memento Festival 2025. On this page, we explain how this decision came to be, what it means for you as a ticket holder, and what we can offer as an alternative.
Unfortunately, we were unable to secure the necessary funding for this year’s edition. Ticket sales dropped unexpectedly two months ago, and despite all efforts to find extra financial support through partners, investors, and even friends and family, we were unable to close the gap. Without this, essential elements such as security, location, and technical infrastructure could not be confirmed.
Ticket sales unexpectedly stagnated. As a result, we can no longer cover the necessary costs for a safe and high-quality event.
While it doesn’t make up for the full experience, we want to offer something in return for your support. All ticket holders are welcome to attend one of the following events for free at Manii Beach in Zandvoort South:
- UMI Festival – Saturday, July 5 or
- Beach gathering – Saturday, September 6 or 27
We’ll send a separate email soon with full details and how to register.
No, unfortunately not. Event insurance policies do not cover cancellations caused by disappointing ticket sales or financial shortfalls. These types of insurance generally only provide coverage for force majeure situations — such as extreme weather, illness of headline acts, or unforeseen emergencies. Financial risk due to low sales is explicitly excluded from coverage.
Yes. We understand the disappointment, and we’re open to having a personal conversation. You can schedule a call with us using the link provided in the announcement email. This mail was only send to the ticket buyers.
No, the alternative events on September 6 or 27 are not organized by us, but are existing events hosted by the beach club itself. However, we are currently in talks with the organizers to see if some of the DJs already booked and paid for as part of the Memento lineup can be added to the program. As soon as we have more clarity, we’ll inform ticketholders by email.
You can email us at info@ilmemento.com. We will do our best to respond to all messages as soon as possible.
Many aspects of a festival must be arranged and paid for months in advance. That’s unfortunately the reality of organizing a large event.
Most contracts have been cancelled, some artist had to be paid upfront. For some, expenses have been made that we can no longer reverse.
We tried everything until the very last moment. Only recently did it become clear that continuing was truly unfeasible.
No, there is (currently) no bankruptcy. As a team, we are working on wrapping things up in a responsible way. However, all bank accounts are empty due to invoices that had to be paid in advance. Additionally, the organization is a sole proprietorship.
The available funds were used to pay suppliers and freelance team members whose invoice deadlines had passed – including those for sanitation, storage, design, marketing, and artists. By the time we had to make the final decision, there were no reserves left to issue refunds.
We feel a moral responsibility and have therefore offered alternatives. Legally, obligations are limited when a festival is cancelled due to force majeure or lack of funds.
We explored all possible scenarios. Unfortunately, none of them resulted in enough resources to organize the festival safely and responsibly.
The festival is not happening, so the ticket no longer holds valid value. However, we are offering you access to another event.
All ticket holders will receive free entry with a +1 to one of the events at Manii Beach in Zandvoort: UMI Festival (July 5) or a beach party (September 6 or 27). These events are organized by Manii Beach.
You will soon receive a separate email with instructions on how to register.
No, we understand that. It is a small gesture of gratitude for your support.
For now, yes. Whether something new will arise in the future is uncertain. For now, we are saying goodbye to this journey.
That option was explored with all parties, incl the location, but even a smaller setup wasn’t financially viable due to fixed costs that still apply.
No, Memento Festival 2025 is fully cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
At this moment, no such initiative is planned. We are focusing on a proper conclusion and the alternative we are offering.
Memento Festival was organized by a sole proprietorship — not a BV, holding, or larger company. That means there’s no legal entity or team of shareholders behind it. It’s just one person who has carried the full responsibility — financially, operationally, and personally.
The owner also invested a significant amount of his own private money into the festival, in addition to all business funds. This was a personal and passionate project, created with love, risk, and full commitment.
